There are a lot of people who, via various tax credits, get a refund that's larger than what they paid in through the year.

There are also people who set their paycheck withholdings higher than they need to be and effectively overpay through the year and then get a fat refund back.

Interest?  Ha!  I think that, in some cases, people do it intentionally because they can't save/budget and if they end up owing money come tax time, they won't be able to come up with the money to pay the bill.  Or, because they can't save or budget, they use it as a means of forcing themselves to save a chunk of money so they can pay for their yearly vacation or some other large purchase (down payment for a new car, new TV, etc).

Hence the question how much you'd be able to enjoy it in current weather. If you wait a bit for supply to catch up and hype to die down you can get a good deal on one locally?

Then again, I'm not one to make good financial decisions or wait to save money. Just do it.

What the hell kind of tax returns do you guys get?

My wife wants to never have to pay after filing. With the kids the laws change every year, sometimes same salary= $500 difference from previous year no other changes.

Last year I got like $3k (out of $5k paid in) but this year I have one less kid (ex claims him) and haven't changed what the gubment is taking out. So it might be $1-2k?

The biggest culprit id EIC (Earned Income Credit) thats given to people with dependents. So a girl with 3 or 4 kids working at a Fast food joint (the less you make the more you get back) may get 8-9 Grand back! Even if you have just one kid you'll get close to 4 Grand easily! I think the cap the number of dependents at 3. Thats when the other play comes into effect. Chicks let other people claim the other kids for a small fee (usually $500) so their friends/family can get a bigger return!

Plus people who already have sufficient cash reserves should be putting that money into actual investments, so more like 5-9% depending on the asset allocation and other assumptions. But then again, those are people less likely to grossly overpay on taxes.
