It's a Ford 300C. Not that that's a bad thing. They shouldn't copy the Chrysler visibility, though.

Catman

One thing about the 500 is the visibility, it's good.  Obviously, this is an evolution of the 427 concept.  I would have to assume Ford wil keep the RWD layout or what would the point be?  In order for this design to carry over and maintain the right look I'm not sure just how much they could open up the greenhouse.

nickdrinkwater

Bit of a desperate copy of the 300C if you ask me.

I agree-
a few problems I see if it becomes a P71-
The roof is too low- it'll get moved anyway remember the 500 roofline as a concept? It was real low and cool looking and it got moved to the dome it's got now.
The front has no air inflow area so that'll have to be opened for police use.
The wheels are way to big.
There are no backup lights - required by federal law
The hoodscoop won't be very public friendly- looks to dramatic.
Doorhandles look way hard to use.
Exhaust pipes through the plastic bumper facia will get too hot and melt or deform the bumper.
The big silver thing on the side looks stupid.
The side mirrors aren't big enough to use.

Fix that stuff and it'll be ok.

It's hot. Great replacement for the Crown Vic.

They should have called it the LTD.  Chevy should tell Ford that they want their Silverado headlights back.

Frankly, this car kind of frightens me.  I fear that it may be a harbinger of a revival of the "designed-by-a-10-year-old-with-a-ruler" style that dominated that 1980s.  You know, when the designers took "3-box" literally?  Every hood line was perfectly horizontal.  Roofs were flat.  Trunk lids were either horizontal or a flat, slightly sloped surface.  Noses and tails were flat, blunt surfaces.  What an awful time for mainstream vehicle design...

New sig!
:ohyeah:

I don't get the 300C comparisons, however.
Just because it has a high belt line and a low roof?

ifcar

And the same roof shape. And it's in the same big, bold-styled, RWD V8 niche.

Raghavan

Looks awesome, except for the high beltline.

The Detroit Free Press did a study using Fed numbers and they found the current one to be just over twice as likely to have fire in a rear end collision.? There's a reason why the federal governemt won't let any new designs or imports to carry the tank beind the read wheels- it's dangerous.? I'll see if I can google the link for you.

Detroit Free Press excerpt- (an anti police paper)
December 8, 2003
"A Free Press computer-assisted analysis of fatalities that had been reported to the federal governemt between 1994 and 2002 found that the Panther vehicles caught fire twice as often as other vehicles in rear-end crashes.? About five out of every 1,000 Panther platform cars caught fire in rear-end crashes.? That compares with a rate of two in every 1,000 among all vehicles."

And the HTSA only uses numbers from fatal fires- how many more were burned up tha tnever got reported?? The Panther is unsafe with hte tank where it is- why won't they just move it like Pontiac did?

I don't like the high beltline, but it looks cool.

It's a great looking concept for the most part, but I hate the fron end.

Bear in mind that a car with so much police use is more likely to be involved in any type high-speed collision, which may influence the numbers.

I LOVE IT!!!!!  I love it for exactly the same reasons I love the 300C.  Kick ass car.

Wait, wait.  So is the "Lincoln Interceptor" a fake, or did someone botch the name on the interenet and get it confused with this?

I agree 100%. although there are things that may have to change in order to move on to the production phase, this idea is long overdue for Ford.

rohan

It just occured to me that this car won't pass the 5mph bumper test in the front and probablynot the rear so it's safe to assume it won't have the same front end.  It also doesn't have any registration plate lights another fed no-no- and how does the hood open?  Sorry guys any production car won't look likethis does it'll be way tamed down.
