Ok I'm no expert on Porsches, so don't yell at me if I missed some!

Hope this hasn't already been done, too.

Raza

Impossible to choose.  But, I think I'll have to go 964, because of the RS.

However, the latest GRM has a 911SC buying guide (I drove one once, fantastic car), and now I'm thinking of being stupid and getting one, even though the gas mileage isn't very good and it's not very practical.  I do love that car.  And the 911 is just the business.

I like the 964 too.  But it'd be tough between that, 993 or 997!

Raghavan

993, 964, 911 for me.

i voted 964, the 993 is second, but i wouldn't mine having any of them.

oh man. choosing a favorite 911 is like choosing a favorite child. but here goes:

1. 997 (the youngest one is often the favorite)
2. 993
3. 930 (I believe this was the chassis designation for the 80's model)
4. 964

the only reason I can give for ranking the 930 so high is that those were the cars that got me into Porsches in the first place :praise:

I'm going to buy a tube radio so we can huddle round it and, by the light of a single candle, listen to President Obama's fireside chats.

280Z Turbo

964. The older ones lack refinement and the newer ones are too soft looking.

the Teuton

I picked the 993--my pick for the best 911 ever made.

Also, the models went:

911/912 (The 901 name was owned by Peugeot)
930
964
993
996
997
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

I'm pretty sure the years are off too.

Didn't the 964 go from '84 to '89?

Damn it. I'm confused. Damn Germans and their illogical naming systems!

Just give me an '80s Porsche 911 that looks like this:

That's the one I want!

J86

I love them ALL.  Tops for me tohugh is the 993, that's the first car I ever really lusted after when I was a little, and it's also the only one I have any real time driving.

ro51092

The 930 was just a 911 Turbo, it was sold alongside the normal 911 from 75 to 89. The 911 chassis existed from 65-89, with revisions. 901 was the name of the prototype 911. I would elaborate more, but I'm too lazy.

930 is the designation for turbocharged 911s only.  And I really think you can pluck out the Super Carreras from the second generation, since they were quite different.  They ran from 1978 to 1983 (I drove a 1983, brilliant car).

The 930 only being for the turbo cars?  I thought that the 930 designation was just for the body style in between 911 and 964.  It was a completely redesigned car from either.

930=Turbo. Technically, there was nothing in between 911 and 964.

Yes, I'm sure.  Technically, as stated before, the original series 911 ran until the 964, with constant changes, most notably being the introduction of the 930 and the 911SC, which is basically a 930 without a turbocharger.
