These are the only three I could come up with.  I'm probably forgetting some, but for under $30K there isn't much selection.

I take the Mazda6 SportWagon because it comes with a manual.

The Subie doesn't come with a manual?

It does.  I meant to say that I take the Mazda over the Dodge because of the manual.

Yeah, I'd go with the Mazda at those price points as well, and you can't get the Legacy wagon in the U.S. anymore (I just checked their site).

I'd take the Magnum with the Hemi, though that raises the price.

Edit:  Per the Mazda USA website, the 6 wagon is not available with a manual here either.  Damn, I don't know which one I would get now.

We get the manual Mazda6 in Canada.  We also get the Legacy Wagon.  If the Magnum RT was in this group I would take the Magnum, but it's not, so I take the Mazda6.

We get a big, fat shaft in the USA, apparently.  Since they are all auto, I'd probably go for the Magnum.

Oh the Magnum. It has the best badass factor.

If it was the RT I would take it because it's fast and badass, but with the 3.5L it's just badass, and not fast.  If I can't have the power I want, then I would get the car that would handle the best and I believe that's the Mazda...is it not?

I was expecting a Then vs Now, not another Now vs Now.

I just find it amusing that all regular comparisons have shown up here, not just old vs. new. ;)

Out of these, you know which one I picked.  But I thought you could get a better engine than the EJ25 for under $30k.  Am I wrong?

Pricing is different is the US and Canada.  Whenever I talk prices I use the Canadian prices because that's what I'm familiar with.

I do both.  I started the Then vs. Now threads and I have the right to change them.

Onslaught

I like the Legacy and the 6 about equally.  But because I can get a 6 for cost I'll take it. That and I have enough spare parts for one to make a car helps too.

Mazda6 wagon, please. All the fun of the car, with all the utility of the wagon

If the Legacy could be had with a sixbanger for less than $30k, I would have voted for it, but as it is the best deal for the enthusiast would have to be the Mazda 6.

goldenlover1101

I picked the Mazda6 because it is probably the enthusiast ride of choice. I like the Magnum, but the interior is very subpar. The exterior is intimidating, but the Mazda wins out.

Eye of the Tiger

I pick Magnum, even though it doesn't have a manual, it's good enuff. A V8 would be the better of course, or hemi, whatever u want to call it. I don't like calling it hemi, because even Ford Escorts have hemis.

To the discerning driver, yes.  To folks who judge by looks alone...not so much.

Remember, the wild lands of Canuckistan get mass amounts of snow.  I'd go either AWD or FWD.  That being said, I'd still pick the Legacy out of this bunch.

We do get the Outback here, though.   :frown:

give it 5 years at least, and people will be swapping out the suspension and front facia to make it look like the JDM GT-B wagon.  Mark my words.
