The S60R could've been chosen...I lumped the other high performance versions together, why not the Volvo?
It wasn't listed before, and I didn't know if choosing the R also meant opening up a can of worms and allowing to pick the M3 and S4, because it is the performance edition.  In which case it gets glaringly easy.

Raghavan

The R is much much cheaper than the M3 and S4.

The M3 wouldn't be included. It's not a sedan. (yet)

Ah true, forgot about that.

I'd pick the S60R then.

Price is no object remember?

Probably the S60 R if you'll let me choose that, if not probably the 335.

This is rather a vague question, and even though "Price is no object," it's a rather large price swing for some of these cars which makes it a loaded question in favor of the 335 almost every time.

The S4 & CTS-V are the most expensive cars on the list by far.

What's the difference in price between a S4 and 335, both equally optioned near the high end?

The BLS is based on the 9-3, it isn't significantly smaller than any of these cars; they're all classified as compact (although that is stretching it nowadays, but they're certainly not mid-size).

I thought the CTS and G35 were both officially midsized.

I'd take an A4 or S4 wagon.

I hate the look of the 3er sedan.  That being said, I'd most likely go for the Acura TL Type S.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

Oh, bad choice.

Sorry, just my opinion.  The car's not very good.  TSX is more fun.

I don't know. The S4 starts at nearly $10K more. They're rather similar performance-wise (the S4 has 40 more HP but the numbers are close).

BMW sure as hell charges a damn high premium but that's the way supply and demand works. Personally I think my car was a steal at under $31K. The 328i is a little more expensive than the 325i was but it did get some more power and I believe the standard options list grew slightly. Similarly equipped, I believe the E90 is still cheaper than the E46 (especially considering that an E90 325i/328i could probably keep up with the previous 330i).

USA_Idol

Acura TL Type-S.? Sure, it's FWD.? So?? I have been smitten with that car's design since it debuted.? ?:P

The BMW 3-Series...like all BMW models...has been Bangleized and is now ugly.  It may drive great...but it's sinfully ugly.

I'd be willing to bet that a 335i will smoke a S4.

For example, a 350Z will pull on a S4 on the highway but doesn't stand a chance against a 335i.

And not to mention AWD losses.

The 335i also has the luxury of coming out later.

I already voted with my dollars. ;-) THREE50 only, the 250 is not worthy of these competitors, and btw they're all great cars--don't we live in great times? Arguably, the BMW is the best "driver's car",  however, this is the wifey's car...

I picked the CTS because the new one should be hitting the streets soon and that thing is bringing sexy back. Otherwise would of been the 335i but I like the American more.

335i 6MT MSRP: 38,900

S4 6MT MSRP: 47,500

Now keep in mind here that an S4 comes standard with things that are optional on the 335i (AWD, leather seats, sport package, etc...).

Comparably Equipped:

S4 w/ Premium Package and Sprint Blue Paint is $49,970
335i w/ Premium Package, Sport Package and Montego Blue Paint is $44,400
335xi w/ Premium Package, Sport Package (incl. 18" wheels) and Montego Blue Paint is $46,100

So if you want AWD the BMW is about ~4k cheaper, and if you don't care about AWD the BMW is about 5.5k cheaper.

On weight, a 335xi weighs 3814 lbs, a 335i weighs 3593 lbs, and an S4 weighs 3869 lbs. So if you want to save weight you can go with the RWD 335i, but if you want AWD the cars weigh about the same.

Thanks for the research, didn't expect a BMW troll such as yourself to find info that really doesn't make BMW look so good :P ;)
