This, kids, is why I have a remote starter in my car.
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

So that when your battery fails to turn over the starter you can discover this before walking out in the cold only to have to walk back in and call the tow truck?

i always pause at the on position for a second or two and then start. i wait for the fuel pump to stop making noise before cranking the engine. is this a bad practice?

We'll see. :evildude:

The Trep can pwn the Santa Fe in a straight line AND curves because your turd will roll. Plus, your car has a lower MSRP and is a Hyundai.

No.

I usually start it right before the pump would turn off though, so it doesn't have to go on->off->on in a short time.  This gets some fuel up to the rail so the  car usually kicks over right away.

Well, considering you have a sedan and he has an SUV, you're going to beat him at both.  A lower MSRP has nothing to do with anything.

Also, why would it matter if his car is a Hyundai?  Yours is a Dodge pretending to be a Chrysler.

Can you even do a remote start on a car with an infrared ignition or a stickshift?

Dodge = Chrysler.

Neither is more prestigious. It's a simple rebadge. Plus, it was originally a Chrysler in '93 then changed to Dodge later.

Stickshift, yes.  Just be sure you don't park it in gear (although I think most systems have an interlock to prevent the car from trying to start if it's parked in gear).

So you can do it without the clutch pushed in?  Ridiculous!

Besides, I always park in gear.

It's not remotely difficult or complicated to remove the interlock switch on the clutch pedal.

None of my Saab's have needed the clutch in to start :)

Sometimes it's nice, sometimes it can suck!

i usually leave it in second. my car doesn't have an interlock and is parked inches from a stone wall. you'd think i would have the common sense to park it in reverse.

It's 50-50 for me. Sometimes I park in neutral + handbrake, sometimes 1st, sometimes reverse, sometimes a combination, but I always do something to keep it from rolling.

Do remote starters shut the engine down if they detect no or very low oil pressure?

my parking slot is on a slight downward slope, so i always have the handbrake on, the gear is as a back-up measure. one that got me into trouble once. my dad didn't realize i left it in gear and cranked the engine and it lunged forward, thankfully, it wasn't in the parking slot.

You can put it into both reverse and 1st at once?

Most modern engines shut themselves down if they detect no oil pressure
the 5.4 in the van stalled in a parking lot but it yelled at us about low oil pressure
my mom started it back up and pressure was fine though so idk
hold on, I need to find my pictures

After you remove your key, do you pull the shifter out of reverse?

No it's locked in.  Can't get the key out if it's not in reverse, once the key is out you can't get it out of reverse.

BTW,
Grew up in Wyoming- never had a block heater in my old 78 Datsun b210 or 79 Subie wagon.

It gets REALLY REALLY cold there-
My morning procedure was:
-throw on hat/gloves
-start car, turn on front/rear defrost
-scrape ice off windows
-get in and drive.

The heater would finally get warm upon hitting the school parking lot. Sometimes it would run real sluggish a mile or so because of frozen ebrake or tranny.

-----------------------------------------------------
Compare that with all the wusses I see from Georgia (or wherever) that start the car and let it run 20minutes in the morning before getting in...   Sheesh.      :-)
