Got to figure out bike racks too. Wish subaru would have made this rack removable with some hard points available for a Thule setup.

Catman

Dark blue was my second option. I like the green but I'd be stuck with the light interior. No thanks.

HID'S only come with the 3.6L unfortunately. I wasn't paying $3K more for that.

Congrats.  Looks awesome.  The front grille/headlights look great on this car.  Much better than the Forester.

I think after my Sonata dies, I'll get a Forester as a replacement for it.

Rear mounted?

Rather have it on the roof. Rocky mounts make some nice racks that fit the factory cross bars

Wonder if the Forester will get the new styling?

Outback is awesome. Very well put together, quiet and comfortable, and the interior is an improvement over the TSX's. Handling is fine although it seems a little top heavy. Sure, the acceleration isn't great, but at least it gets good fuel economy on 87 octane. My husband has to deal with hourlong stop-and-go commuting in crummy weather, so comfort and safety edges out sportiness. Sad reality.

We're thinking 2.5i Limited, dark metallic blue, with the EyeSight system. EyeSight kind of struck me as a gimmick but my neighbor swears by a similar system in his MB - it's saved him from a few close calls in the thick of crap traffic.

The lack of a HID option except for the 3.6 is bullshit though. Safety is a hallmark of Subaru and HIDs are definitely a safety item.

Oh well, I imagine the retrofit kits are pretty cheap.

Can you stash bikes in the back without a rack without destroying the bikes or the car?

Or are bike racks necessary?

My CX9 was faster but the times I got on it was few and far between. What you have with the 2.5 is a fairly large car with all weather capability and some decent efficiency. I will be surprised if I hit 33 mpg with it but we will see.

As far as the bike thing you can probably get a bike in the back but that's always a PIA. If you get a hitch on it a hitch rack is easier for most people.

The HID headlights should just come with the limited, stupid that they don't.

Congrats! Makes me want to turn my place to a two wagon household now.

The headlights are projectors on all trim levels though, so fitting HID bulbs is a pretty cheap and simple upgrade.

I thought HID technology was more than just bulbs?

Putting HID bulbs in a reflector housing is awful. But the hard part is retrofitting projectors into a car that has reflector housings. The new outback already has projectors. Just a matter of replacing the bulbs with HID bulbs and ballasts.

Got the bulb size from the owner's manual?

Also, how does the car handle high beams?  Separate bulb, right?

If it's like the old Outback, H7 bulb.

H7 4300k bulb, HD Relay, Denso Slim Ballasts.  Around $250 for everything.  I think that would do the trick.

Hitch bike racks are waaaaay Easier to load/unload, I'm sure way better gas mileage on longer (highway) trips.

I usually take just 2 bikes though, I prefer the rack that the bike sits on rather than suspending the bike from the bars...
I have one of each kind, I only use the second type when hauling kids' bikes too.

This is my favorite, although I wish it was had points to lock it to the car and to lock the bikes to. I have to stretch a cable lock to the chain loop on the hitch receiver...

My parents love their new Outback. It looks great and was a steal.

Catman

The one I got came in a bit under $32k. Not sure what else out there offers more for the money?

I do think the 3.6L adds a lot of cost and doesn't look as good money-wise.
