2016 Volt

EV range up from 38 miles to 50, better acceleration, better gas mileage on engine power (and on regular fuel), and now five-passenger capacity.

A lot of good news here, though the front end is a step backward in my opinion. And one thing that concerns me a little is that according to the article GM seems to have focused on owner feedback, while it might have been even more important to hear from people who considered the Volt and rejected it. From what it sounds like, the Prius and Leaf will continue to be quite a bit roomier, fifth seat aside.

Rich

they toned down the exterior looks and the interior egonomics to appeal to the more conservative folks (which I'd imagine were some of the bigger reasons outside of cost).

Did Toyota listen to current owners or people who considered but did not buy the xB when they redesigned that car?  That redesign turned out to be a complete flop.

Yeah, it looks older and less sophisticated than the model it replaces.

It looks like a Liftback version of the new Cruze

The difference there is that the first xB sold well, where the first Volt was far short of expectations.

It could always do worse.

Looks like a friggin Dart.

Not a good way to standout, IMO.

Looks good. Way better that the 1st gen on the inside which is all that matters. The cross section of people looking for a mainstream and people who want stunning design is low and cornered by Mazda. Depending on how usable the trunk is and how easy it is to load infants into this could be wife's next ridein a few years

Looks like a Volvo with less overhang. Id don't see the problem. We will see how bad the headroom is when it hits the streets

I don't agree. I love Volt I's interior.

Prius is the same shape and doesn't have headroom issues...

The tail lights look like my Focus and a 2012 Civic had a bastard love child.

I don't see how that isn't a clear improvement over the first iteration:

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

The new interior is 1,000,000 X nicer and befitting a $40,000 car.

2o6

That's a computer rendering, and it looks super similar to the new Cruze.

The old one looked really space-age and sleek. This one just looks like any ordinary GM car (which was likely the point)

hotrodalex

I like it. Interior is way improved, exterior is different but still on the same level of "goodness" IMO.

old one was ugly as sit inside especially with the white console

This one needed to be more "boring"

It can be an improvement and still be ugly.

My issue with the interior on the old one wasn't stylistic... It looked kinda cool, but felt pretty cheap overall and the longer I was in one the more it seemed like what 1980s Sony thought futuristic car interiors should be like. It also definitely did not feel like a $40k car inside. I know there's bound to be a bit of a tradeoff on that since a decent chunk of your money is going to what makes the car unique, but it'd still be irritating (to me) to spend $40k on a car that doesn't feel as nice inside as another small Chevy that's half the price.

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

I believe it was an attempt at getting iSuckers but they aren't quite the right market. Those that buy iPhones just because everyone else did are not the right people to buy a new car idea.
